A Christian Bestiary – the Amphisbaena

“In our search for provisions we traveled deep into the jungle. There we saw the great serpent the ancient Romans called ‘amphisbaena.’ It is a serpent with two heads, one at either end of its’ sinuous body, as if one head were not enough to spew its’ poisonous bile. One head is as white as the pure northern snows and the other is a black as the pit. And here is a wonder for the two heads are constantly at war with one another as the Sons of Light are ever at war with the Sons of Darkness. But even so, the Almighty shows us His divine plan, for the head of light is stronger than the head of darkness and is the sure victor in these struggles.
So too my prince will the light always prevail over the darkness no matter how desperate the struggle seems. At the end of all things the Savior will come and banish the darkness forever and consign all that is evil and unrepentant into everlasting fire.”
