The Virgin Mary is sometimes referred to as the Star of the Sea. As the stars reflect the light of the sun, Mary reflects the light of God, acting as a guide, drawing us to Him. The image of Mary cradling a boat, acting as both guide and protector of those navigating the stormy seas of the world, has always been an image of hope and comfort, not only for sailors but for all those weathering the storms of life.
