Art should serve a purpose, it should serve the people of a community, and above all, it should be beautiful. The idea of art for art’s sake is a relatively modern idea. Throughout the 40,000 years (give or take) of human history, with the exception of the last 150 years, art has served the people.
I believe that all the gifts God gives to us are to be used to bring people back to Him, and art is no exception.
The particular expression of the gifts God has given me has led me to draw on the rich cultural tradition of Christian religious and sacred art, reinterpreting those images for a contemporary audience. It is also important that the imagery stay true to the Magisterial teachings of the Church, teachings founded on those ancient traditions. I pray that, through my art, people may feel connected to the invisible world, the world of the sacred, the world of the divine, and find their way back to the loving God who created us to be with Him always.
