St. Luke is the patron saint of artists. There are several paintings (icons) scattered throughout the world that, according to tradition, were painted by him or are copies of his work.
The bull is attributed to St. Luke as a symbol of sacrifice. The Gospel according to Luke begins with the sacrifice of Zechariah.
